About the role
The Legal Assistant will provide remote legal support and administration to lawyers and other legal professionals engaged in representing financial institutions in bankruptcy, foreclosure, residential real estate, or mortgage law. This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime.
Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys in representing clients in judicial foreclosure proceedings, including:
- Process the Judgment workload of assigned states according to firm procedures, internal goals, and client/insurer/investor requirements.
- Draft legal documents such as pleadings, briefs, motions, and agreements.
- Electronically file pleadings within strict deadlines and manage high-volume incoming electronically filed documents.
- Prepare correspondence.
- Proof legal forms and documents for accuracy.
- Organize and track case files.
- Provide timely responses and updates to clients.
- Communicate with courts, title vendors, and other third parties.
- Monitor and handle Judgment-related tasks for the judicial foreclosure caseload.
- Ensure billing is completed in a timely manner at all billable events and milestones.
- Handle other assigned projects or tasks.
Requirements
- High School Diploma (required).
- Bachelor’s Degree (preferred).
- At least 1 year of experience working as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal.
- Judicial foreclosure service experience (highly preferred).
- Paralegal certificate (a plus but not required).
- Knowledge of multi-state process of service in a judicial environment (preferred).
Skills
- Thorough knowledge of legal principles, research techniques, and legal terminology.
- In-depth knowledge of government regulations.
- Relevant computer knowledge and experience.
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Strong planning, organizing, attention to detail, and accuracy.
- Excellent research, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
