About the role
Responsible for specific legal areas and is working to achieve mastery of legal skills; reviews and analyzes specific legal issues and advises accordingly; drafts procedures, attends meetings and maintains notes and records of meeting outcomes as well as current /past work in organized fashion; knowledge level high enough to work independently in some areas; independently informs supervising attorney of status of projects, research or assignments; voluntarily identifies brings forward issues, concerns and ideas pertaining to assignments; masters business operations/procedures.
Responsibilities
- Perform moderate to complex research and reviews information pertaining to legal issues looking for omissions, ambiguities and required information.
- Drafting and proofreading and editing of materials done routinely.
- Drafts moderate to complex professional memos, correspondence, and other legal documents.
- Drafts procedures as appropriate.
- Independently handle digital file management, overseeing documents, organization of file, preparation of materials, and inputting case analysis and status reports.
- Draws conclusions for attorney to review.
- Deals with outside individuals independently to coordinate/facilitate workflow.
- Informs supervising attorney of status/concerns/ideas and, at highest level, suggests solutions that attorney implements.
- Review and analyze in greater depth bulletins, regulations, statutes, reports, and industry publications and is responsible for reviewing, researching and analyzing new federal and state laws as well as general issues plus has the capability of understanding and advising on how these laws/regulations impact the company and its products/procedures/compliance.
- Understand and keep abreast of legal resources including use of on-line research tools. May prepare spreadsheets, presentations, notes and reports, as necessary.
- Works to expand and master knowledge of insurance and financial services business/operations. Deals with moderate to complex legal issues, coupled with an understanding of how these work in conjunction with insurance.
- Train other personnel as appropriate. May assign work to other legal analysts as appropriate.
- Proactively complete assigned work and works to proactively identify additional work that is necessary or helpful in furthering areas of responsibility.
- Demonstrates strong attention to detail and a desire and willingness to learn and grow skill set and knowledge base.
- Attend virtual trade association meetings actively taking notes identifying and reporting actual and potential impacts to the company.
- Comfortable performing administrative and other tasks as assigned by supervising attorney and others.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required.
- Two or Four year college degree or paralegal certificate strongly preferred.
- Minimum three years complex litigation paralegal experience, including handling subpoena requests and objections to subpoenas, general legal research skills, and litigation case management experience required.
- Prior class-action litigation experience is a plus.
- Paralegal or paraprofessional training required. Such training to include research, analytical, writing and communication skills.
- Good legal judgment and ability to work independently.
- Strong attention to detail, communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
- Possesses skills to analyze and organize complex legal issues.
