Legal Administrative Specialist (Case Manager)
About the role
Well-qualified surplus/displaced Federal employees (CTAP/ICTAP) in the local area and current/former Federal employees in permanent competitive service positions (status candidates). Responsibilities
- Receiving, organizing and storing incoming discovery and evidentiary materials and tracks their receipt.
- Managing discovery in a variety of formats, including paper documents, PDF files, image files, audio files, video files, forensic reports, proprietary files, and other electronic file types.
- Using software applications to perform basic processing of electronic discovery materials.
- Providing technical support in discovery management, such as downloading and duplicating electronic files, creating searchable versions, redacting sensitive information, etc.
- Organizing and preparing written summaries of witness statements and testimony, audio or video recordings, and documentary evidence.
- Preparing exhibits and demonstratives for use in legal proceedings.
- Providing support to legal team during court proceedings, e.g., using trial presentation software and courtroom equipment to display exhibits or demonstratives, maintaining accounting system of exhibits entered into evidence, and managing witnesses.
- Providing general administrative support for assigned cases by entering and updating information about pending cases in case management software.
- Conducting factual and legal research in legal and nonlegal databases in support of investigations and cases.
- Drafting routine legal documents such as routine motions, pretrial filings, summonses, subpoenas, satisfactions of judgements, and other routine legal documents.
Requirements
Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications
- GS-07: To be eligible at the GS-07 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education OR a combination of Education and Experience, OR Superior Academic Achievement.
- Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level. Specialized experience is defined as providing legal and administrative support assisting with the organization of various types of information (examples include paper, PDF files, image files, audio files, video files, etc.); utilizing software applications to perform basic document processing techniques to organize, tag, sort, filter and redacting files; preparing routine legal documents; and assisting attorneys during court proceedings.
- OR Education: One (1) full year of progressively higher-level graduate education leading such to a degree in a related field (e.g., Legal Studies, Law, Criminal Justice). Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.
- OR Combination of Education and Experience: Combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year.
- OR Superior Academic Achievement: Possess a Bachelor's Degree or expect to complete the requirements for a Bachelor's degree within the next 9 months AND possess at least one of the following criteria: class standing in the upper third of the graduating class; an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) OR at least a 3.0 based on courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; a GPA of at least 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ('B"+ or better) based on the average of required courses completed in my major field OR based on the average of required courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; OR election to membership in a national scholastic honor society.
- GS-09: To be eligible at the GS-09 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience.
- Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Specialized experience is defined as providing legal and administrative support to one or more attorneys (i.e., examining, preparing, editing, cite-checking and processing legal documents; tracking cases; and/or producing and presenting discovery); providing training and/or support utilizing legal databases and software (i.e. Eclipse, Relativity, Trial Director, etc.); assisting attorneys with trial preparation to include items such as discovery processing, subpoenas, trial exhibits, information requests, pleadings, and correspondence; and establishing and maintaining a variety of files.
- OR Education: Master's Degree or equivalent graduate degree in a related field (e.g., Legal Studies, Law, Criminal Justice); or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related. Education was obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.
- OR Combination of Education and Experience: Combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year.
