Lecturer - Program in Global Languages & Cultures (2026-27)
Global Languages & Cultures (GLC) at the University of California, Irvine anticipates hiring scholars at the rank of Lecturer to teach undergraduate courses and participate in departmental activities for the 2026-27 academic year in the Winter and Spring 2027 quarters.
About the Role
The primary instructional need is in the multilingual/academic English program, including writing courses and reading/vocabulary courses. There may also be limited opportunities to teach literature and global cultures courses. We seek candidates who can contribute to initiatives such as the Global Literacies program, Global Horizons program, CC×GC Pathways, and/or the Community Literacy Project.
- Winter quarter service period: 1/4/2027–3/19/2027 (pay period: 01/1/2027–03/31/2027)
- Spring quarter service period: 3/24/2027–6/11/2027 (pay period: 04/01/2027–06/30/2027)
Responsibilities
- Teach courses in the multilingual/academic English program, supporting the literacy needs of multilingual students at a research university
- Potential to teach literature and/or global cultural studies courses
- Contribute to curriculum and course materials development
- Participate in departmental activities and program initiatives
Requirements
- Doctoral degree in a field relevant to the GLC curriculum (e.g., applied linguistics, rhetoric/writing, literature, etc.)
- Ability to teach a variety of courses in the multilingual/academic English program
- Cross-cultural teaching experience equivalent or translatable to teaching multilingual students at the college/university level at a research university
Qualifications
- Experience teaching literature and/or global cultural studies (desired)
- Ability to contribute to curriculum development using recent disciplinary research (desired)
- Record of ongoing professional development and achievement (desired)

Pay
The non-negotiable starting salary is $9,227.13 per course, per the 2026-27 Lecturer salary scale.

About GLC
Global Languages & Cultures (GLC) is a dynamic unit in the UC Irvine School of Humanities. It houses the Global Cultures program, a fast-growing major and popular double major. GLC offers courses in languages (Arabic, Filipino, Persian, Vietnamese) and academic English for multilingual students. The Program supports initiatives such as the Global Horizons program, the Intercultural Communication VR Research Lab, and the TOEP (assessment and support for international graduate teaching assistants).
