One or more temporary, part-time lecturers for a pool from which instructors will be considered for appointments as they become available for Fall Semester 2026 and/or Spring Semester 2027.

About the Department

The Department of Statistics and Data Science offers undergraduate degrees in Statistics and Data Science, two post-baccalaureate certificates (in applied or mathematical statistics), and a master’s degree in Statistics. The Statistics MS degree offers five concentrations: Actuarial, Applied, Biostatistics, Data Science, and Mathematical Statistics. The Department also teaches basic statistics courses for many major programs throughout the University. Programs include a mix of theory and applications, and the department uses various software for instruction such as R, Python, and SAS.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate statistics courses, including general introductory statistics and discipline-oriented courses in business, natural and social sciences, humanities, and engineering.
  • Teaching assignments may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online.

The policy and expectation of the California State University is that all faculty members will perform all of their duties within the state of California.

Qualifications

  • Minimum requirement of an M.S. in Statistics or Biostatistics (Ph.D. in Statistics or Biostatistics preferred).
  • Alternatively, an M.S. degree in a related field of application with teaching experience.

Pay

Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. The salary schedule for the Lecturer - Academic Year Classification is as follows:

  • Lecturer AY (Range 2): $5,507 - $6,677
  • Lecturer AY (Range 3): $6,221 - $13,224
  • Lecturer AY (Range 4): $6,825 - $14,523
  • Lecturer AY (Range 5): $8,593 - $15,211

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.

Schedule

Fall Semester begins August 17, 2026; Spring Semester begins January 19, 2027.
