Cal Poly Humboldt’s Department of Mathematics & Data Science is a lively, student-centered program distinguished by excellence in teaching, innovative curriculum, and meaningful faculty-student engagement. We foster future scholars and professionals through strong analytical foundations and applied problem-solving in mathematics, statistics, and data science. The department offers two undergraduate degrees (Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Bachelor of Science in Data Science), a Minor in Mathematics, a Minor in Applied Statistics, and three certificates in Data Science. Our curriculum is rigorous yet flexible, emphasizing hands-on and applied learning to develop marketable skills in communication, computation, data analysis, problem-solving, and organization.
About the role
Temporary faculty may teach a broad range of courses in mathematics, statistics, and data science, from lower-division foundational courses (College Algebra, Trigonometry, Finite Mathematics, Calculus) to upper-division and advanced applied courses (Linear Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, Differential Equations, Statistics, Data Science). Applicants should be prepared to contribute across introductory quantitative literacy through advanced computational topics.
Qualifications
- M.A. or M.S. in mathematics, statistics, data science, or a closely related mathematical science field; successful teaching experience or recent professional practice is required.
- For statistics or data science courses, a M.A. or M.S. in a field with strong statistical application will be considered.
- Ph.D. and successful teaching experience within the last 5 years is preferred.
Pay
Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience. Monthly base salaries for the Lecturer – Academic Year classification are:
- Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677
- Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224
- Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523
Appointees are typically placed at the beginning of the range. Full-time (15 units per semester) salaries are prorated to the number of units worked and paid in six monthly payments per semester.
