Dept of Sciences & Mathematics Lecturer (Pool Position)

Cal Poly Maritime Academy, a specialized campus of the California State University system, invites applications for a temporary, non-tenure track Lecturer position in the Department of Sciences and Mathematics. This pool position is open for teaching assignments beginning Fall 2025 or Spring 2026, with review of applications starting immediately.

About the Department

The Department of Sciences and Mathematics serves seven degree-granting majors, a mathematics minor, and a new data science minor. Lecturers will teach in-person mathematics courses, contribute to curriculum coordination, and support student learning across diverse academic programs.

Responsibilities

• Teach a variety of undergraduate mathematics courses, including College Algebra, Statistics, and Calculus.
• Hold regular office hours and prepare course materials, assessments, and grading (homework, quizzes, exams, reports).
• Assess student learning outcomes and submit final grades.
• Attend coordinated course meetings, faculty training sessions, and departmental meetings as directed.
• Participate in the coordination of gateway mathematics activities.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field.
• Ability to teach a range of undergraduate mathematics courses.
• Willingness to participate in the coordination of the gateway mathematics program.

Qualifications

• Preferred: Ph.D. in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field.
• Preferred: Relevant teaching experience, particularly with underprepared students.
• Demonstrated passion for teaching, service, and innovative classroom methods.
• Commitment to fostering an equitable and inclusive learning environment.

About Cal Poly Maritime Academy

Located on a scenic waterfront campus in Vallejo, California, Cal Poly Maritime Academy is one of seven degree-granting maritime academies in the U.S. and the only one on the West Coast. The Academy serves approximately 1,000 undergraduate and 50 graduate students, offering seven baccalaureate degrees and a Master of Science in Transportation and Engineering Management. Pay

Salary is commensurate with education, qualifications, and expertise. The full-time unit load for a lecturer is 15 teaching units (WTUs), typically 4–5 courses per semester. The monthly salary range for the Lecturer (Academic Year) classification is $6,221–$13,224, with most new full-time lecturers hired between $6,221–$6,600 per month, prorated based on unit load.
