Sacramento State’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers approximately 40 undergraduate courses in mathematics and statistics. Classes are generally small, with many opportunities for faculty-student contact. The department serves students from a wide range of majors in lower-division courses and also offers a major in mathematics, a minor in mathematics, and a minor in statistics.

About the role

Part-time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires from the pool are made when instructional needs arise due to changing enrollment patterns, changes to tenure-track faculty assignments, or other factors. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, though occasionally academic-year appointments are made. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance. Assignments—including dates, time, and modality—are determined by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.

  • Holding regular office hours
  • Other duties as assigned by the department

Qualifications

  • Required: Master’s degree in Mathematics or Statistics
  • Preferred: Previous teaching experience in mathematics or statistics at the post-secondary level

Pay

Initial rank and salary are based on professional experience and educational background. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges (full-time rate for 15 weighted teaching units) are:

  • Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677 per month
  • Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224 per month
  • Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523 per month
  • Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211 per month

Compensation is pro-rated based on assigned units. For example, a Lecturer A teaching 3 units at the minimum rate would earn $1,101.40 per check for six payments, totaling $6,608.40 for the semester.
