2026-27 AY Lecturer Pool - Mathematics
Cal State LA’s Mathematics Department in the College of Natural & Social Sciences is forming a pool of part-time faculty lecturers for the 2026-2027 academic year. Positions are filled each semester as instructional needs arise due to enrollment fluctuations, changes in tenure-track faculty assignments, or other departmental factors. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, though occasional academic-year appointments may be made. Renewals depend on department needs, funding, and performance. Many appointments are finalized shortly before the semester begins, so availability on short notice may be required.
Minimum Qualifications
- MA/MS degree or higher in mathematics from an accredited university (in special circumstances, MA/MS degrees in other fields may be considered).
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level.
- Commitment to student-centered learning and teaching.
- Ability to relate well to others within the academic environment and work in a multiethnic, multicultural setting.
- Proficiency in written and oral English.
- Alignment with the university’s mission of engagement, service, and the public good.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
- Relevant work experience and training.
- Appropriate doctoral or terminal degree.
Responsibilities
- Instruction, class preparation, grading, and holding office hours.
- Additional duties as assigned by the department.
- Course assignments (dates, times, modality) determined by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.

Pay
Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, based on the following full-time equivalent ranges (per salary schedule effective July 1, 2024):
- Lecturer A/2: $5,507 – $6,677 per month
- Lecturer B/3: $6,221 – $13,224 per month
- Lecturer C/4: $6,825 – $14,523 per month
- Lecturer D/5: $8,593 – $15,211 per month
The anticipated monthly hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range. Most new faculty lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank.
