Lecturer Pool in Department of Art + Film (Academic Year 26/27)

About the role

The Department of Art + Film at Cal Poly Humboldt seeks to hire temporary faculty to join our pool of instructors. Our mission is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the visual arts, preparing them for careers in various fields such as art, film, museums, education, business, and daily life.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in Art Education, Art History, Art Studio, Digital Media, Film Studies, Museum & Gallery Practices, Photography, and Sculpture.
• Prepare and deliver lectures, critiques, and studio sessions.
• Evaluate student work and provide feedback.
• Develop and maintain curriculum and course materials.
• Maintain communication with students, colleagues, and administration.

Requirements

• Art Education: MFA with teaching credential, MAEd, MEd or MA in Art Education, with a PhD in Art Education preferred.
• Art History: MA in Art History, or a PhD in a closely related field, with a PhD in Art History preferred.
• Art Studio: An M.A. or equivalent in appropriate field, with an M.F.A. in Studio Art or related field preferred.
• Digital Media: M.F.A. in a related emphasis, or M.A. in appropriate field, with an M.F.A. in a Digital Art/Digital Media emphasis preferred.
• Film Education: M.A. in appropriate field is generally required, but B.A. plus teaching experience will be considered.
• Museum & Gallery Practices: M.F.A. or M.A. in relevant field, with an M.A. in Museum Studies preferred.
• Photography: M.F.A. in a related emphasis, or M.A. or equivalent in appropriate field, with an M.F.A. in Photography emphasis preferred.
• Sculpture: M.F.A. with a related emphasis, or M.A. or equivalent in appropriate field, with an M.F.A. with a sculpture emphasis preferred.

Qualifications

• Art Education: Demonstrated successful academic and professional work, teaching experience within the past five years, and mastery/competency in specific subject matter.
• Art History: Demonstrated successful academic and professional work, teaching experience within the past five years, and mastery/competency in specific subject matter.
• Art Studio: Demonstrated successful academic and professional work, teaching experience within the past five years, and mastery/competency in specific subject matter.
• Digital Media: Demonstrated successful academic and professional work, teaching experience within the past five years, and mastery/competency in specific subject matter.
• Film Education: Successful teaching experience at the college level and/or professional work related to the appropriate field, with evidence of teaching effectiveness.
• Museum & Gallery Practices: Demonstrated successful academic and professional work, teaching experience within the past five years, and mastery/competency in specific subject matter.
• Photography: Demonstrated successful academic and professional work, teaching experience within the past five years, and mastery/competency in specific subject matter.
• Sculpture: Successful teaching experience within the past five years, academic or professional work within the past five years, and familiarity with mold-making, welding, and foundry.

Skills

• Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong communication skills.
• Experience with digital media and photography techniques.
• Knowledge of art history and theory.
• Ability to develop and implement innovative teaching methods.
