About the Department

The Department of Teacher Education offers the Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and the Single Subject Teaching Credential in Art, Dance, English, History/Social Studies, Mathematics (all areas including Advanced), Music, Physical Education, Science (General and Integrated), Theatre, and Languages Other Than English (Chinese, French and Spanish). The Department offers four Masters of Science (MS) degree in Education: Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Technology, Reading Instruction, and Early Childhood Education. The mission of the Department is to prepare teachers who are committed to improving school practices for California's diverse student populations and who can model such practices in their own classrooms.

Duties

• Teach courses which may be scheduled at the Hayward campus, the Concord Center, and/or online.
• Teach courses in the multiple subject credential program, single subject credential program (including methods courses), early childhood education (undergraduate minor and masters), curriculum masters, reading masters, and educational technology leadership masters.
• Perform all duties within the state of California as expected by the California State University.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in education or related field.
• Teaching experience in K-12 setting.
• Advanced knowledge relative to course assignment.
• Understanding of how adults learn.
• Demonstrated ability to teach and evaluate candidates from diverse educational, cultural, and work backgrounds.
• Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team as well as to make independent judgments.
• Good written and oral communications skills.
• Commitment to personal and professional lifelong learning.
• Willingness to be available and accessible to candidates.
• Experience with online or hybrid courses preferred but not required.

Salary

Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. The salary ranges for the Lecturer-Academic Year classification are listed below:

• Lecturer AY (Range 2): $5,507 - $6,677
• Lecturer AY (Range 3): $6,221 - $13,224
• Lecturer AY (Range 4): $6,825 - $14,523
• Lecturer AY (Range 5): $8,593 - $15,211

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.

Schedule

• Fall Semester: 08/17/26 – 12/21/26
• Spring Semester: 01/19/27 – 05/21/27
• Most courses are held evenings and weekends.
