About the role
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy Marine Science Department invites applications for a Lecturer in Marine Science. The desired start date is August 10, 2026. The Academy is a highly selective federal military college that provides a rigorous undergraduate program and is committed to building a talented faculty of teacher-scholars who collaborate to provide a multi-disciplinary and hands-on approach to learning and leadership development. This is an appointment in the excepted service; the first two years of federal service is a trial period. Relocation expenses are not authorized, and the position is not eligible for telework or remote work.
Responsibilities
- Teach marine science courses and laboratories in Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, Oceanography, Marine Biology, or Geospatial Sciences (9–15 contact hours per semester).
- Supervise cadet directed-studies projects in marine and environmental sciences.
- Participate in leadership and professional development activities with students outside of class.
- Perform institutional assessment, course preparations for the following year, support evaluation of incoming students, and/or other duties over the summer.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Oceanography, Marine Science, Geospatial Sciences, Applied Sciences, Ocean/Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Ability to teach undergraduate courses in marine science, atmospheric sciences, oceanography, marine biology, geospatial sciences, and/or data visualization.
- Previous experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate students.
- Strong interpersonal, teaching, and effective written and oral communication skills.
- Teamwork skills, initiative, and adaptability in a student-centered institution.

- Record of scholarship and publication in related fields.
