California State University San Marcos is accepting applications for a lecturer position in the Department of Environment and Geography for Fall 2026.

About the Role

Teach GEOG 110: Introduction to Physical Geography, a lower-division physical science general education course (5A). The course satisfies the Earth Science content requirement for candidates in the Elementary Subject Matter Preparation Program.

Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday, 7:30–8:45 am (in-person).

Course Description

Examines the place of the Earth in the solar system; the seasonal and latitudinal distribution of solar energy; analyzes elements of weather, climate, vegetation, and soils; considers major landforms and the processes that shape them; examines the Earth’s water system.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver lectures and facilitate in-person instruction for GEOG 110.
  • Engage students in the study of physical geography and earth systems science.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in Geography, Earth Science, or a related field.
  • Evidence of specialization in physical geography or earth systems science.
  • Higher education teaching experience in geography courses.
  • Employment is contingent on working in the State of California, per the CSU’s Out-of-State Employee Policy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A doctorate in Geography, Earth Science, or a related field.
  • Higher education teaching experience in general education science courses.
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence and a commitment to serving the campus community in teaching and service.

Pay

Anticipated hiring salary range: $5,507–$8,000 per full-time month, commensurate with education and experience. Salary is based on the following CSU classification ranges:

  • Lecturer A – AY: $5,507–$6,677 per full-time month.
  • Lecturer B – AY: $6,221–$13,224 per full-time month.

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range.
