About the Role

The Department of Geography in the College of Arts and Letters at San Diego State University is accepting applications for their part-time lecturer pool. Temporary appointments may be either full- or part-time and are often made just prior to the start of the academic term, requiring availability on short notice.

Opportunities exist for teaching lower and upper division courses in:

  • Physical, human, and environmental geography
  • Regional geography
  • Digital cartography and geographic information systems

Initial appointments are typically one semester or one academic year, renewable contingent on satisfactory evaluations and continuing availability of work. Applications remain active in the pool for the academic year in which they are submitted.

Academic terms are as follows:

  • Fall term: mid-August to late-December
  • Spring term: mid-January to mid-May
  • Summer Sessions: opportunities may also be available

Responsibilities

  • Teaching assigned courses in geography and related fields

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in Geography or related field
  • University teaching experience
  • Demonstrated currency in subject matter

Applicants must disclose any final administrative or judicial decision issued within the last seven years determining that they committed sexual harassment, pursuant to Education Code 89521.

Pay

Initial rank and salary are based on professional experience and educational background. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges are:

  • Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677
  • Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224
  • Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523
  • Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211

Most new appointees are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank and placed at the beginning of the range.
