Lecturer - EDMX 627: Assessment for Planning and Instruction (Fall 2026)

About the role

The School of Education at California State University San Marcos invites applications for instructors to teach EDMX 627: Assessment, Planning and Instruction in Special Education in Fall 2026. The course meets on Wednesday evenings from 5:30–8:20 p.m. as an in-person, lecture-based course.

Responsibilities

• Teach methods of assessment and instructional planning to support students with disabilities, language differences, and other learning needs in accessing the general education curriculum.
• Administer, interpret, and utilize formal and informal assessments to develop, implement, and evaluate Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
• Emphasize evidence-based assessment practices, data-driven instructional planning, and collaboration to promote inclusive educational environments.

Requirements

• A master’s degree in education or special education, or a closely related field.

Qualifications

• A doctorate or equivalent.
• Experience teaching in higher education.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in education.
• Recent experience teaching in public TK–12 classrooms/special education.
• Knowledge of and experience with restorative practices, Universal Design for Learning, Multi-tiered Systems of Support, and Individual Education Programs.
• Valid California Special Education teaching credential.
• Familiarity with California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) standards for special education credentials.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in teaching Mild to Moderate Support Needs and Extensive Support Needs in TK–12 settings.
• Extensive experience with both formal and informal special education academic achievement assessments, assessment report writing, Individual Education Program (IEP) development, and instructional planning.
• Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campus community as it relates to teaching and, as applicable, service.

Pay

The anticipated hiring salary range is $5,507 – $6,677 per full-time month, generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.
