California State Polytechnic University, Pomona’s Department of Philosophy invites applications for its part-time Lecturer pool to meet teaching needs based on student enrollment and funding. Positions may begin on short notice, with the fall term running late August to mid-December and the spring term mid-January to mid-May. Summer session opportunities may also be available.

About the Department of Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy is a small, welcoming department helping students critically engage with traditional and contemporary philosophical problems. It offers two degree options: a general option for students considering graduate school in philosophy and a law and society option for those preparing for law school. The department also administers the Science, Technology, and Society major, including an option in the ethical dimensions of AI. Faculty and students actively participate in Ethics Bowl and celebrate World Philosophy Day.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned courses in the department’s curriculum.
• Hold weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load.
• Teach day, evening, and/or weekend courses as needed.

Qualifications

Required

• A Master’s degree in Philosophy.

Preferred

• A Ph.D. in Philosophy.
• Prior teaching experience at the college or university level, with evidence of strong teaching.
• Experience teaching online and hybrid courses.

Pay

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background. Most new appointees are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank, with an anticipated hiring range not to exceed $6,221 per month (prorated for part-time assignments). As of July 2024, the monthly salary ranges are:

• Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677
• Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224
• Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523
• Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211
