Lecturer of Philosophy

About the role

Barnard College Department of Philosophy invites applications for a full-time lecturer position to begin July 1, 2027. Barnard is a premier liberal arts undergraduate college for women in New York City affiliated with Columbia University. The Barnard College and Columbia University Philosophy Departments function as a single department for most academic matters.

Responsibilities

• Teach 3+3 courses per year.
• Advise undergraduate students.
• Participate in service at the departmental and college levels.
• Teach introductory and advanced courses and develop new classes drawing on the candidate’s areas of specialization.
• Must be able to teach Introduction to Logic.
• Participate in lecturer review process: reviewed in third year, with possibility for reappointment and consideration for promotion to Senior Lecturer in seventh year; subsequent reviews typically on a seven-year cycle.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Philosophy by time of appointment, or no later than Fall 2027.

Pay

Salary range: $88,000 - $94,000.
