The Role
The Lead Ophthalmic Technician assists the Clinic Manager in supervising Ophthalmic Assistants and Diagnostic Technicians, supports the Clinic Manager with administrative and clinical operations, represents Key-Whitman Eye Centers positively, creates a high-accountability work environment, performs direct patient care, and performs various diagnostic and procedural tasks.
Responsibilities
- Assists Clinic Manager in supervising Ophthalmic Assistants and Diagnostic Technicians
- Supports Clinic Manager with day-to-day administrative and clinical operations
- Represents Key-Whitman Eye Centers positively
- Creates and sustains a highly accountable and inspired work environment
- Performs direct patient care
- Performs lensometry
- Performs diagnostic testing of the eye
- Obtains accurate patient history
- Performs functional ocular measurements
- Performs refractometry
- Administers topical ophthalmic medications
- Performs tonometry
- Maintains and sterilizes surgical instruments
- Aids in punctual plug installation
- Verbalizes post-operative instructions to patients
- Understands basic ocular pharmacology
Qualifications
- Two years of Ophthalmic Technician experience in an ophthalmology setting
- JCAHPO certification (COA/COT) preferred
- High school diploma or GED
- Successful completion of two or more years of college and/or university level courses preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in EMR and computer literacy
- Well organized and attentive to detail
- CPR preferred, but not required
- HIPAA knowledge and compliance
