Lead Technician - Component Rebuild Center

Full-time position in the Machine Division (MAC) located in Irving, reporting to Jay McGowan.

About the role

This position leads a team to perform inspections, diagnoses, and repairs of heavy equipment and related components, ensuring work aligns with company goals and customer needs. The Lead Technician establishes production goals, supervises, trains, and evaluates service employees, and models company values daily.

Responsibilities

• Monitor physical requirements (facilities, tools, environment) and communicate needs to supervisor.
• Model and reinforce company policies to align work with mission, vision, and values.
• Meet labor sales and utilization expectations to achieve team revenue targets.
• Act as Service Supervisor during their absence.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions and failures.
• Perform quality control inspections of completed tasks.
• Disassemble and assemble machine components to manufacturer specifications using hand tools, pneumatic tools, and specialized equipment.
• Rebuild, repair, recondition, and maintain equipment and components.
• Demonstrate strong customer relations and communicate customer needs to management.
• Plan and control repair job costs; complete parts orders and identify parts for return.
• Provide task and behavior-oriented supervision, mentoring, and training to team members.
• Maintain equipment and work areas in clean, orderly condition.
• Adhere to all safety policies and work safely at all times.
• Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs.
• Update job knowledge through educational opportunities (e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• More than ten years of work-related experience preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Owns a large and complete assortment of appropriate hand tools; specialized tools may be required.
• Extensive knowledge of machines, tools, designs, repairs, and maintenance.
• Proficient with computer software, hardware, and machine electronic systems.
• Strong quality control analysis skills to test, inspect, and evaluate work.
• Ability to operate and control equipment and systems.
• Equipment selection skills to determine tools needed for jobs.
• Ability to operate forklifts and overhead cranes.
• Quick and precise operation of machine or vehicle controls.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and mechanical repair equipment.
• Fine motor skills for precise manipulation of small objects.
• Strong reading, writing, and verbal communication skills.
• Active listening to understand information and instructions.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to move objects and use abdominal/lower back muscles for support without fatigue.
• Frequently lift and move materials or equipment up to 50 pounds.
• Constant movement and use of limbs; requires manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
• Ascend/descend ladders and equipment using hands and feet.
• Maneuver safely and work underneath equipment.
• React to visual, auditory, and other signals (e.g., alarms, instructions).
• Visually inspect work in various conditions.

Work Environment

• Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts.
• May be exposed to weather extremes (heat, cold, humidity, inclement weather) when working outside.
• Noise levels may be loud at times.
• Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment.
• Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.
• Work in cramped spaces and/or high places.
