Lead Technician

Full-time position in the Machine Division (MAC) located in San Antonio, reporting to Eduardo Rodriguez.

About the Role

This position leads a team in performing inspections, diagnoses, and repairs of heavy equipment and related components, ensuring customer needs are met and departmental goals are achieved. The Lead Technician establishes production goals, supervises, trains, and evaluates service employees while modeling company values and practices.

The role requires extensive experience (typically over ten years) and demonstrated expertise in mechanical services. The incumbent is self-starting, requires no supervision, and performs complex technical tasks while collaborating with internal and external resources.

Responsibilities

• Monitor physical requirements for work completion (facilities, tools, environmental) and communicate needs to supervisor.
• Model and reinforce company policies, practices, and values to align with the company’s mission and vision.
• Achieve labor sales and utilization expectations to meet team revenue targets.
• Act as Service Supervisor during their absence.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions and failures.
• Perform quality control and assurance inspections of completed tasks.
• Disassemble and assemble machine components to manufacturer’s specifications using hand tools, pneumatic tools, and specialized tooling.
• Rebuild, repair, recondition, and maintain equipment and components.
• Demonstrate strong customer relations and communicate customer needs to shop management.
• Plan and control the cost of repair jobs.
• Complete parts orders and identify parts for return.
• Provide task and behavior-oriented supervision, mentoring, and training to team members.
• Maintain equipment and work areas in clean, orderly condition.
• Adhere to all safety policies and company procedures.
• Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs.
• Update job knowledge through educational opportunities (e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• More than ten years of work-related experience in mechanical repair and maintenance.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Owns a large and complete assortment of appropriate hand tools; specialized tools may be required.

• Extensive knowledge of machines, tools, and their repair/maintenance.
• Proficiency with computer software, hardware, and machine electronic systems.
• Quality control analysis skills to evaluate products, services, or processes.
• Operation and control of equipment or systems.

• Ability to operate a forklift and overhead crane.
• Precision in operating machine/vehicle controls.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and mechanical repair equipment.

• Active listening to understand information and instructions.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to move objects and use abdominal/lower back muscles to support weight (up to 50 pounds) over time.
• Constant movement and use of limbs, requiring manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
• Ability to ascend/descend ladders and equipment using hands and feet.
• Capability to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment.
• Responsiveness to visual, auditory, and other signals (e.g., alarms, instructions).
• Visual inspection of work.

Work Environment

• Primarily indoor work around moving mechanical parts.
• May be exposed to weather extremes (heat, cold, humidity, inclement weather) when working outside.
• Loud noise levels at times.
• Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment.
• Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.
• Work in cramped spaces and/or at heights.
• Some travel may be expected.
