Lead Technician

About the role

Herzog Transit Services, Inc. is seeking a Lead Technician in Santa Ana, CA to supervise, mentor, and train Technicians and Service Maintainers while performing diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on transit vehicles and related systems.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, mentor, and train Technicians and Service Maintainers.
• Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic propulsion systems, electronic destination signage, PA systems, electronic displays, and other electronic systems on transit vehicles.
• Conduct thorough preventative maintenance inspections in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines; make routine mechanical repairs and adjustments.
• Troubleshoot electrical, electronic, and mechanical problems using test equipment, shop tools, torque wrenches, multimeters, power supplies, oscilloscopes, and portable test units.
• Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of track, switch, TWC, and TPSS systems.
• Inspect Streetcars for defects such as defective lights, body damage, interior damage, and operating defects; report and repair issues.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of the shop area.
• Tag and document defective parts.
• Perform vehicle recovery duties, including towing/pushing disabled vehicles, assisting with re-railing, and moving cars around the yard and shop.
• Clean exterior of streetcars by hand washing and steam cleaning using solvents, soaps, cleaning chemicals, and tools.
• Check and replenish consumables such as wiper fluid and sand.
• Prepare and maintain records and reports, including work orders and inspections.
• Promote and adhere to Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors.
• Ensure regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with Streetcar and/or PLC systems.
• Skill in maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting, and overhauling electrical and mechanical systems.
• Experience in diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic propulsion systems and fare collection systems.
• Knowledge of mechanical and electrical principles, repair methods, standards, and practices.
• Familiarity with test equipment and tools for repair, maintenance, and installation of mechanical, electronic, and electrical systems.
• Strong knowledge of electronics, including digital and analog systems.
• Knowledge of general shop safety procedures.
• Ability to read, understand, and apply technical information from service manuals and schematics.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic software, portable test units, and electronic schematics.
• Ability to operate a computer and use MS Office products and maintenance information systems.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Streetcar Yard Operation certification.

Pre-Employment Requirements

• Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required.
• Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety-sensitive nature of the position.
• Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly lift up to 75 pounds to a height of up to 56 inches.
• Regularly carry up to 75 pounds for distances up to 100 feet.
• Regularly push/pull up to 50 pounds for distances up to 50 feet.
• Regularly grasp or squeeze with forces up to 40 pounds.
• Regularly ascend and descend a 10-step ladder with up to 25 pounds.
• Frequently climb on/off equipment.
• Work in confined spaces (12 inches height, 24 inches width).
• Regularly kneel, bend, squat while transferring up to 25 pounds.
• Regularly sit and stand for extended periods.
• Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to 1 mile.
• Regularly lay on back for extended periods.
• Regularly reach overhead while holding tools.
• Must be aware of surroundings and follow verbal commands in moderately loud noise environments.
• Must adapt to temperature extremes, including heat, cold, moisture, and wind.
• Must work in a safety-sensitive environment.
• Must pass color/vision examinations as required.
• Must hear and distinguish auditory signals as required.

Pay

$35.42 per hour.
