Responsibilities

  • Follow safe work practices and adhere to company and client worksite safety policies and procedures.
  • Install structured cabling systems, including all aspects of the installation process.
  • Read and interpret floorplans, drawings, specifications, and cut sheets.
  • Set up copper and fiber testers and perform system testing and troubleshooting.
  • Terminate, label, test, and troubleshoot optical fiber and copper installations.
  • Proactively lead teams of 3-5 Technicians and Installers to complete project tasks.
  • Adequately train Technicians and Installers on all tasks and responsibilities.
  • Assist in developing Technicians to take on Lead Technician roles.
  • Oversee jobsite organization and basic housekeeping maintenance.
  • Maintain professional appearance and demeanor in internal and customer relations.
  • Excel in technical tasks such as testing and troubleshooting.
  • Use a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, etc.) proficiently.
  • Travel as required by E2, with minimal overnight travel (5%) in some regions and frequent (50%+) in others.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • OSHA 30 certification within the first 2 weeks in the role.
  • BICSI Installer 2 Copper preferred.
  • BICSI Installer 2 Fiber preferred.
  • BICSI Certified Technician (must be earned within 12 months in the role).
  • Minimum 2–5 years of work experience in Structured Cabling or related industry/construction.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Able to distinguish color codes.
  • Understand and explain every aspect of structured cabling systems, including pathways, spaces, horizontal cabling, backbone copper, backbone fiber optic, cross- and inter-connections, and testing.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices, with the ability to differentiate and make recommendations.
  • Ability to choose the correct tools and methodologies for tasks and guide team members.
  • Strong listening skills and ability to follow instructions.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning from senior team members.
  • Positive attitude and solid teamwork.
  • High attention to detail and ability to source and follow standards.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work days, nights, and weekends as project requires.
  • Proactive time management and accountability for safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Self-motivated with an excellent work ethic.
  • Ability to motivate teams in versatile work environments.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The standard work environment is an indoor business office and construction site, with moderate noise levels. The role requires:

  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands and arms.
  • Occasional physical movements such as stooping or kneeling.
  • Regularly lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds, and frequently up to 25 pounds.
  • Regularly carrying and climbing ladders up to 20 feet.
  • Operating equipment such as scissor lifts, telehandlers, boom lifts, and UTVs (buggies) if required.
  • Working in tight and confined spaces.
