Responsibilities

  • Follow safe work practices and adhere to company and client worksite safety policies and procedures.
  • Install structured cabling systems, including all aspects of the installation process.
  • Read and interpret floorplans, drawings, specifications, and cut sheets.
  • Set up copper and fiber testers and perform system testing and troubleshooting.
  • Terminate, label, test, and troubleshoot optical fiber and copper installations.
  • Proactively lead teams of 3–5 Technicians and Installers to complete project tasks.
  • Train Technicians and Installers to fulfill all position responsibilities.
  • Assist in developing Technicians to meet Lead Technician competencies.
  • Oversee jobsite organization and basic housekeeping maintenance.
  • Maintain professional appearance and demeanor in internal and customer interactions.
  • Excel in technical tasks such as testing and troubleshooting.
  • Use Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio) proficiently.
  • Travel as required: minimal overnight travel (5 %) in some regions; frequent (50 %+) overnight and extended out-of-town travel in others.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as identified and assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • OSHA 30 certification within first two weeks in role.
  • BICSI Installer 2 Copper preferred.
  • BICSI Installer 2 Fiber preferred.
  • BICSI Certified Technician (must be earned within 12 months in role).
  • Minimum 2–5 years of structured cabling or related industry/construction experience.
  • Read, write, and understand English.
  • Able to distinguish color codes.
  • Ability to explain every aspect of structured cabling systems—pathways, spaces, horizontal cabling, backbone copper, backbone fiber, cross- and inter-connections, and testing—including applicable codes, standards, and best practices.
  • Ability to choose the correct tool and methodology for tasks and guide team members.
  • Strong listening and instruction-following skills.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning from senior team members.
  • Positive attitude and solid team-player mentality.
  • High attention to detail and ability to source and follow standards.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work days, nights, and weekends as project requires.
  • Proactive time management and accountability for safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Self-motivated with excellent work ethic.
  • Ability to motivate teams in versatile work environments.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The role operates in indoor business offices and construction environments with moderate noise levels. Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and climbing ladders up to 20 feet are required. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Operation of equipment such as scissor lifts, telehandlers, boom lifts, and UTVs (buggies) may be required. Work in tight and confined spaces is possible.
