Schedule
Full time, Day shift
Responsibilities
- Coordinates surgery schedules for physicians' operating rooms, including times, procedure names, and consents.
- Ensures sterility of all items in the sterile field to prevent surgical infection.
- Ensures patient safety within the operative environment.
- Handles surgical specimens with 100% accuracy.
- Prepares supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgical cases using physician preference lists and knowledge of procedures, patient positioning, and sterile technique.
- Validates correct patient and operative site, keeps accurate counts, labels medication/fluids, adheres to safe handling and disposal of sharps, and maintains a safe, clean environment for patients.
- Acts as a liaison between physicians and operating room staff.
- Serves as a preceptor, role model, and resource for team members, coaching and teaching new team members and students.
- Increases clinical knowledge and skills independently, working with unfamiliar procedures and surgeons to expand and develop new skills.
- Works with equipment specialists, managers, and supply utilization specialists to ensure availability of equipment, instruments, and supplies.
- Sets up the operating room with supplies and instruments, and works with the hospital surgical coordinator for instrument and supply preference sheet changes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Interpersonal Skills [Required]
- Completion of validation skills [Required]
- Knowledge of sterile technique, instrumentation, equipment, and sterile field set-up [Required]
- Knowledge of sterilization techniques [Required]
- Laser skills/training [Required]
- Critical thinking and patient assessment skills, with the ability to evaluate and modify treatment plans utilizing patient care protocols [Required]
- Optimize the use of equipment based on the order or protocol [Required]
- Ensure infection control procedures are followed [Required]
- Maintain records and communicate information [Required]
- Utilize and adapt to computer systems and applications, effective oral and written communication skills [Required]
- Must have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care which addresses the physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety age-appropriate needs of the patient populations served within the department [Required]
Qualifications
- High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
- Associate [Preferred]
- Technical/Vocational School [Preferred]
- Successful Completion of accredited Surgical Technology program
Work Experience
1+ years of experience [Required]
Licenses and Certifications
- Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
- NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) [Preferred]
- Technician in Surgery TS-C (NCCT) [Preferred]
- State Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) [Preferred]
- Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) [Preferred]
- State Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) [Preferred]
Pay
$29.57 - $55.01 per hour
