Lead Steward

About the Role

Austin's largest luxury property, Fairmont Austin offers 1,048 guestrooms and suites, along with over 140,000 square feet of meeting and event space. This is an opportunity to join the hotel’s Stewarding team, reporting to the Executive Steward.

Responsibilities

• Consistently offer professional, friendly, and proactive guest service while supporting fellow colleagues
• Lead and supervise the Stewarding team in all aspects of the department and ensure standards are followed
• Supervise and maintain the sanitation of kitchen equipment and other assigned areas
• Train all Kitchen Stewards
• Review banquet event orders and ensure all set-ups and supplies are in place
• Operate an industrial dish machine
• Ensure all colleagues have the dishes, silverware, and glasses required
• Sort, stack dishes, and load/unload dish machine
• Sort, stack, and store all cleaned items in an organized and safe manner
• Ensure all broken and chipped items are removed from circulation, reported, and inventoried
• Ensure floors are dry and clean at all times
• Ensure all equipment is in working order and report any items in need of repair
• Remove debris and trash to designated areas throughout shift
• Clean and sanitize all pots, pans, and dishes by hand and using dish machines
• Follow department policies, procedures, and service standards
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including all equipment and storage spaces
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a Stewarding department preferred
• Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities
• Highly responsible and reliable
• Computer literate in Microsoft Windows applications preferred
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred
• Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work cohesively as part of a team
• Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times

Physical Demands

• Constant standing and walking throughout shift
• Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
• Occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling
• Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and ramps
