About the role

Contribute to the development and evolution of a global Macro Rates Trade Capture platform that supports the Rates and Emerging Markets businesses in capturing and managing a wide range of rates products to meet diverse client needs. Play a key role in building the next generation of trade capture technology, leveraging modern engineering practices to solve complex business challenges at scale. Design and deliver innovative solutions that drive simplification, standardization, and automation, enhancing operational efficiency, improving user experience, and supporting Barclays’ strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and improve software using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools to provide business, platform, and technology capabilities.
  • Ensure code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Participate in code reviews and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, actively contributing to the organization’s technology communities.
  • Adhere to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implement effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
  • Contribute to or set strategy, drive requirements, and make recommendations for change.
  • Plan resources, budgets, and policies; manage and maintain policies and processes; deliver continuous improvements.
  • Manage and mitigate risks through assessment, supporting the control and governance agenda.
  • Demonstrate leadership and accountability for managing risk and strengthening controls.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish key business objectives using influencing and negotiating skills.

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in developing and troubleshooting high-performance, multi-threaded Java applications, with good knowledge of JVM internals, garbage collection, and memory management.
  • Proven experience designing, tuning, and optimizing complex SQL queries on Microsoft SQL Server and similar RDBMS platforms, leveraging ORM frameworks such as Hibernate and caching technologies including Redis, Guava, and Coherence.
  • Considerable background in real-time, low-latency, and event-driven architectures, working with XML, JSON, and Protobuf message formats and messaging platforms such as Kafka, IBM WebSphere MQ, and Solace.
  • Extensive experience building scalable enterprise applications using modern Java frameworks, including Spring, Spring Boot, and Micronaut.
  • Demonstrated success leading the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) across small engineering teams, with strong stakeholder management, cross-functional collaboration, and influencing skills.
  • Experience with modern software engineering practices, including microservices, containerization, and CI/CD pipeline design using GitHub, GitLab, or similar platforms.
  • Direct experience with financial trade capture and risk systems, with a solid understanding of rates trading workflows and messaging standards such as FIX, FpML, and SWIFT.
  • Proven ability to build and support scalable, resilient enterprise applications within complex financial services environments.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience developing web-based user interfaces using modern frameworks such as React or Angular.
  • Hands-on experience with Claude Code and other GenAI coding assistants or agentic AI tools.

Location

This role is located in Whippany, NJ.

Pay

Base salary range: $170,000 – $230,000. This position is eligible for an incentive award.
