Lead Reliability Engineer

About the role

This position serves as both the site’s Lead Reliability Engineer and the Area Leader for Utilities & Solvent Recovery, providing technical leadership and organizational direction to a team consisting of engineers, maintenance coordinators, supervisors, and hourly technicians. The role has overall accountability for the safe, reliable, efficient, and compliant operation of critical site utility systems, including boilers, compressed air systems, chillers, cooling towers, HVAC systems, and associated utility infrastructure, as well as the site’s solvent recovery operations. The role partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, HSE, and other functional leaders to ensure the site’s critical infrastructure supports production requirements while minimizing unplanned downtime, energy consumption, environmental impact, and operating cost. Management of the solvent recovery area includes ensuring regulatory compliance with pollution control units and their associated emissions management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain reliability strategies for critical production and utility assets.
  • Identify bad actors and recurring equipment failures and develop sustainable corrective actions.
  • Utilize reliability data, failure history, downtime information, and maintenance metrics to identify improvement opportunities and ensure utilities equipment is properly maintained to avoid production downtime.
  • Provide engineering support for equipment modifications, replacements, upgrades, and capital projects.
  • Serve as the overall Area Leader for the Utilities & Solvent Recovery department.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and accountability for the Maintenance Coordinator, area Supervisor, and Process Engineer supporting the area.
  • Provide technical and leadership oversight for the site’s utility infrastructure and emission controls devices and equipment, including off-hour support (by phone or in person as needed) to ensure avoidance or minimization of production losses associated with equipment and process failures.
  • Coordinate daily between site Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and HSE to ensure alignment and action on priorities and threats.

Requirements

You must have:

  • 5+ years of engineering and leadership experience in manufacturing or an industrial setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Reliability Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in reliability engineering, maintenance engineering, manufacturing engineering, or industrial operations.
  • Experience with industrial utility systems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to both hourly and salaried personnel.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to function clearly and safely in crisis conditions and work under pressure.

We value:

  • Experience with boilers, steam systems, compressed air, chillers, cooling towers, HVAC, or similar industrial utility systems.
  • Experience with solvent recovery, distillation, evaporation, or related chemical processing systems.
  • Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM).
  • Experience with CMMS systems and maintenance reliability programs.
  • Experience leading capital projects and equipment installations.
  • Experience managing or leading maintenance and engineering personnel.
  • Experience with energy management and utility optimization.
  • Advanced manufacturing knowledge focusing on Maintenance and Operational Excellence.
  • Experience in Reliability Engineering.
  • Familiarity with predictive maintenance techniques.
  • Understanding of mechanical integrity program management.
  • Experience in Process Safety Managed sites; knowledge of OSHA 19.10 PSM Elements.
  • Proficiency in using SAP or similar systems.
  • Significant leadership experience and a proven track record of leading teams to successful product delivery.
  • Experience improving team performance through coaching and team building.
  • A commitment to raising standards annually to drive organizational excellence.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence and interact effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Leadership that demonstrates sound and timely judgment in ambiguous environments.

Pay

The annual base salary range for this position is $125,760 – $157,456. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Solstice Advanced Materials considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.
