Lead Radiation Therapist (Outpatient) - Full Time, Day Shift

About the Role

Assists with dosimetric calculations, treatment planning, quality assurance, and data input into the system. Provides radiation therapy in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist. Supports the department director in day-to-day operations and acts as an expert clinician, demonstrating a high level of knowledge and serving as a leader/resource to the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

• Schedules patients for treatment and operates linear accelerators and CT scanners.
• Delivers the prescribed course of radiation therapy by checking prescription, diagnosis chart, and patient identification.
• Explains procedures to patients, including means of communication during treatment and basic treatment procedures.
• Delivers prescribed daily dose to patients while observing radiation safety measures for both patient and personnel.
• Manages daily patient charges for radiation therapy patients.
• Supervises and performs planning and production of immobilization devices.
• Prepares room and equipment for patients according to prescription or simulation, including immobilization devices, and transfers patients to the treatment couch with attention to special needs.
• Observes patients for unusual reactions and signs of developing complications during treatment, reporting reactions and complications to the supervisor and department physician.
• Maintains a variety of records, including daily treatment logs, and regularly reviews patient charts to eliminate errors and ensure proper recording of blood counts and special reports.
• Provides clinical supervision and evaluates students' practical ability to perform procedures.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in radiation oncology or equivalent (some certifications will require a Bachelor’s): Preferred
• Master's Degree: Preferred
• Five years' technical experience: Preferred
• Two years' leadership experience: Preferred

Qualifications

• Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy (AART-T) and Certification of Therapeutic Radiology Technology (RTT): Required
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor per AH policy: Preferred
• ARRT-Radiation Therapy (ARRT-T): Required
• Therapeutic Radiologic Technology Certification (TRT): Required
• Hospital Fire and Life Safety (HLFS) certification: Required

Pay

The estimated base pay for this position is $62.83 to $86.18 per hour. Additional individual compensation may be available through differentials, extra shift incentives, bonuses, etc. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package, and a comprehensive benefits program is available for qualifying positions.
