Responsibilities

The Lead Project Coordinator for Biogeochemistry will lead operations for an auxiliary lab at FSUCML to conduct sample analyses for internal and external customers on an array of research projects, research, design, and conduct experiments and biogeochemical analysis of samples for carbon and nutrient composition and radioisotope dating. They will also collaborate on the planning and logistics prior to sample collection, including providing customers with reporting of results and billing after project completion.

  • Leads research projects and operations for an auxiliary lab at FSUCML. Maintain and operate laboratory equipment for analyses of carbon and nutrients in freshwater, saltwater, wetland soils, marine sediments, plant and animal tissues, and gases. Primary lab instruments include: Smartchem 200 discrete analyzer, Elementar EL Cube, Elementar Vario TOC, LI-COR LI-7810 CH4/CO2/H2O Trace Gas Analyzer, and a Mirion SAGe Well Detector.
  • Responsible for actively interacting and working with internal and external customers to discuss analytical capabilities, processes, and logistics. Provide analytical reports to customers. Recommend, develop, and implement improvements to laboratory methods.
  • Ensure environmental health and safety compliance, and laboratory analytical (QA/QC) compliance.
  • Oversee supply ordering, scheduling, and general organization of the laboratory.
  • Maintain and calibrate field instruments.
  • Train and assist graduate and undergraduate students with sample analysis for their projects.
  • Coincide customer billing for lab auxiliary services with FSUCML business manager.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of experience conducting independent or directed research in aquatic, coastal, or marine ecosystems; or a high school diploma/equivalent and six years of the above experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.)
  • Preferred qualifications include: Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to evaluate process effectiveness and develop change or alternatives. Ability to gather, interpret, report, and/or edit information. Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously. Ability to meet project deadlines. Ability to utilize problem solving skills. Ability to utilize blueprints and specifications. Ability to perform assigned responsibilities with minimal to moderate supervision. Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, and repair a variety of equipment and machinery used in area of work. Knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment. Knowledge of applicable computer applications and basic computer functions. Knowledge of the principles and practices of project planning, development, and evaluation. Knowledge of scientific rules and methods to solve problems. Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of data collection. Skill in preparing clear and concise reports, policies, procedures, correspondences, and other written materials. Knowledge of the physical or life science field.

Anticipated Salary Range

The anticipated starting salary for this position is $45,000 or higher, commensurate with experience and education.
