About the role

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Process Mechanical Lead Engineer to work in one of our Ohio offices or Bingham Farms, MI office. As part of our team, you’ll work on projects that bring innovative solutions to our municipal clients’ water and wastewater challenges locally and worldwide.

In this role, you’ll plan, design, and oversee the preliminary and detailed engineering of water and wastewater treatment plants across Ohio and the region. Responsibilities include preparing specifications, drawings, and construction documents for treatment plant upgrades and expansions, as well as designing piping and pumping systems. You’ll evaluate and select equipment, piping materials, and valves, assist with facility layouts, and develop calculations, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and construction documents.

As the Process Mechanical Discipline Lead, you’ll oversee process mechanical teams, provide leadership on projects, and serve as the point of contact for our process mechanical practice. This includes collaborating within the community of practice, setting standards and best practices, and mentoring team members. You’ll also coordinate with other disciplines, direct CAD designers, and ensure construction conforms to specifications and standards.

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and lead the process mechanical aspects of water and wastewater treatment plant projects, including upgrades and expansions.
• Prepare general arrangement drawings for treatment equipment and tanks, as well as piping and pumping system designs.
• Evaluate and select equipment, piping materials, and valves.
• Develop calculations, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and construction documents.
• Oversee construction activities, including installation, startup, and troubleshooting.
• Coordinate with other project disciplines and direct the work of CAD designers.
• Serve as the Process Mechanical Discipline Lead, providing leadership and mentorship to the team.
• Collaborate within the community of practice to set standards and best practices.
• Work with construction management staff to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
• Participate in planning, cost development, scheduling, and project management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering, or a similar degree from an accredited university or college.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in process mechanical design of water and wastewater systems.
• Active Professional Engineering (PE) license.
• Experience with National Building Codes, EPA regulations, and 10 States Standards.
• Strong teamwork skills, including giving and receiving critical feedback.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience managing remote domestic and international staff.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in industrial, water, or wastewater process mechanical engineering.
• Proficiency in hydraulic modeling software such as AFT Fathom or Pipe-Flo.
• Experience developing process flow diagrams to define mass balance.
• Experience in construction, including installation, startup, and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in MicroStation and/or Autodesk design suites.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $110,000 to $175,000. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Jacobs offers a hybrid working policy, allowing employees to split their work week between Jacobs offices/projects and remote locations.
