About the role

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Process Mechanical Lead Engineer to work in one of our Ohio offices or Bingham Farms, MI office. As part of our team, you’ll work on projects that bring innovative solutions to our municipal clients’ water and wastewater challenges locally and worldwide.

You’ll plan, design, and oversee water and wastewater treatment plants across Ohio and the region, including specifications, drawings, upgrades, and expansions. Responsibilities include preparing general arrangement drawings for treatment equipment and tanks, designing piping and pumping systems, evaluating and selecting equipment, and providing construction oversight. You’ll also develop calculations, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and construction documents while coordinating with other disciplines and directing CAD designers.

As the Process Mechanical Discipline Lead, you’ll oversee process mechanical teams, provide project leadership, and serve as the point of contact for our process mechanical practice. This includes collaborating within the community of practice, setting standards, and mentoring team members. You’ll also have opportunities to work across Jacobs’ core water technical areas: Drinking Water & Reuse, Municipal Wastewater, Distribution and Conveyance, Water Resources, and Industrial Water.

Responsibilities

• Plan, perform preliminary, and detailed design of water and wastewater treatment plants, including upgrades and expansions.
• Prepare general arrangement drawings for treatment equipment and tanks, and design piping and pumping systems.
• Evaluate and select equipment, piping materials, and valves; assist with facility layouts.
• Develop calculations, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and construction documents.
• Provide construction oversight and ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and standards.
• Coordinate with other project disciplines and direct the work of CAD designers.
• Serve as the Process Mechanical Discipline Lead on projects, overseeing teams and providing leadership.
• Collaborate within the community of practice, set regional standards, and mentor team members.
• Work with construction management staff to ensure installation and operational testing conform to requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering, or a similar degree from an accredited university or college.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in process mechanical design of water and wastewater systems.
• Active professional engineering (PE) license.
• Experience with National Building Codes, EPA regulations, and 10 States Standards.
• Strong teamwork skills, including giving and receiving critical feedback.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience managing remote domestic and international staff.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in industrial, water, or wastewater process mechanical engineering.
• Proficiency in hydraulic modeling software such as AFT Fathom or Pipe-Flo.
• Experience developing process flow diagrams to define mass balance.
• Participation in planning, cost development, management, and scheduling for projects.
• Experience during construction, including installation, startup, and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in Microstation and/or Autodesk design suites.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $110,000.00 to $175,000.00. Individual pay within this range is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Schedule

Hybrid working policy allowing employees to split their work week between Jacobs offices/projects and remote locations.
