Lead Pharmacy Technician
Job Description
Oversees training programs and mentors pharmacy technicians and supports onboarding, competency validation, and peer development.
Supports technician career development and contributes to the advancement of pharmacy technician practice.
Serves as a role model for professionalism, accountability, and teamwork.
Serves as a liaison between the technician team and pharmacy leadership.
Communicates operational needs, escalates issues, and supports departmental goals.
Serves as a safety advocate and operational lead for medication-use process improvements, compliance initiatives, and adherence to institutional standards.
Maintains proficiency in all Tech IV functions and provides coverage in any core or advanced pharmacy practice areas as needed.
Coordinates daily workflow for the pharmacy technician team, including task prioritization, workload distribution, staff coverage, and assignment of responsibilities.
Monitors the completion and accuracy of pharmacy technician tasks, ensuring compliance with hospital policies, medication safety standards, and documentation requirements.
Develops and enforces protocols and work processes to ensure accuracy, safety, and quality in across all pharmacy operational areas.
Provides real-time feedback and guidance to team members.
Coordinates shift handoffs and monitors team adherence to schedules and assignments.
Ensures continuity of operations between shifts and across pharmacy practice areas.
Works closely with pharmacy leadership, clinical teams, IT, compliance, and other departments to support cross-functional initiatives and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
Enlists collaborative support from Pharmacy Technician Specialists as needed to improve or advance targeted pharmacy services.
Participates in quality improvement efforts, workflow audits, and performance monitoring.
Assists in identifying opportunities for operational efficiency and service enhancement.
Directs pharmacy compliance efforts and perpetual accreditation readiness.
Qualifications
3+ years of contemporary hospital pharmacy experience.
Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) certification.
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification.
