Position Summary
Serve as the organization's payroll subject matter expert and provide functional leadership for payroll operations, with a primary focus on Workday Payroll.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary Workday Payroll subject matter expert for the payroll team, providing technical leadership and guidance on payroll processes and system functionality.
- Process end-to-end payroll accurately, timely, and in compliance with applicable policies and regulations.
- Review payroll results, identify discrepancies, and resolve complex payroll issues, escalations, and exceptions prior to payroll finalization.
- Participate in the transition to Workday & OSV, including testing, validation, etc.
- Monitor, interpret, and implement changes to federal, state, and local payroll regulations, ensuring ongoing compliance and proactively communicate impacts to leadership.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve payroll policies, procedures, controls, and workflows to support operational excellence and compliance.
- Identify, recommend, and lead process improvement and automation initiatives that enhance payroll efficiency, accuracy, scalability, and employee experience.
- Partner with HR, HRIS, Finance, Technology, external vendors, and third-party providers to support payroll operations, pension administration, system initiatives, and regulatory compliance.
- May be called upon to handle other duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Human Resources or related field required.
- Significant hands-on experience with Workday Payroll is required.
- Seven to ten years of progressive payroll experience, including experience in complex, multi-state payroll environments.
- Experience in payroll processing, with a strong understanding of end-to-end payroll operations.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations and tax requirements. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Able to work independently, prioritize multiple responsibilities, and lead initiatives.
- Proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation a plus.
