About the role
Join us in making a difference in the early detection of hearing loss in newborns as a Newborn Hearing Screen Technician. As a newborn hearing screen technician, you will provide hearing screens in the hospital after a baby is born. You will work on-site at one or more hospital locations to screen newborns for hearing loss. At Pediatrix, you will receive on-the-job training, including annual certification accredited by the American Academy of Audiology, to ensure adeptness in improving early detection of hearing impairments and encouraging timely intervention.
Responsibilities
- Perform newborn hearing screenings and provide parent education.
- Serve as the primary operational resource at designated hospital(s) within a Site Supervisor’s market.
- Support training and onboarding of new team members; assist with schedule coordination.
- Promote compliance with company standards and serve as a liaison between hospital staff and program leadership to ensure consistent service delivery and quality outcomes.
- Comply with all company and facility policies and procedures, including PPE, required vaccinations, safety/security protocols, orientations, and annual compliance modules.
- Raise any questions or concerns from hospital staff and/or leadership to the HS Manager.
- Evaluate each patient for “screen readiness” prior to performing a screen; only screen patients in the appropriate state to achieve a reliable result (e.g., fed, quiet, calm).
- Collect all necessary data/demographics for each baby; perform the hearing screen and all screen-related services on all eligible babies during each shift.
- Ensure documentation protocol is followed for every screen; treat each screened baby and family with care and consideration.
- Upload all screen results/billing/state reporting by the end of each shift and ensure stats are complete and reconciled, unless otherwise instructed.
- Perform all screens efficiently while minimizing time in the patient room without sacrificing quality, patient education, or satisfaction.
- Ensure all relevant information is provided to the party responsible for each screened baby; provide appropriate education to parents/guardians about the necessity of the screen and next steps based on results.
- Notify Site Supervisor of all missed and final refer babies; schedule outpatient appointments for refer babies where appropriate.
- Serve as the designated lead resource for assigned hospital locations; support onboarding and training of new Hearing Screen Technicians.
- Assist with competency validation and promote compliance with screening protocols, documentation standards, and hospital requirements.
- Communicate operational concerns, staffing needs, and workflow challenges to the Site Supervisor.
- Assist with schedule coverage creation in coordination with the Site Supervisor.
- Act as a liaison between hospital staff and program leadership when appropriate.
- Assist with maintaining equipment readiness and troubleshooting basic operational issues.
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualification/Education Level: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Current CPR Certification or must obtain upon offer.
- Flexibility to work on weekends and national holidays required.
- 10% travel required for occasional meetings or trainings.
Preferred Experience
- One to three months of previous experience with newborns and in a medical setting.
- Proficiency in Excel and data entry.
- Demonstrated history of strong quality metrics and productivity.
- Previous experience training or mentoring peers.
