Lead Newborn Hearing Screen Technician - Per Diem

Join us in making a difference in the early detection of hearing loss in newborns as a Newborn Hearing Screen Technician. You will work on-site at one or more hospital locations to screen newborns for hearing loss and provide parent education.

About the role

The Lead Hearing Screen Technician (HST) performs newborn hearing screenings, provides parent education, and serves as the primary operational resource at designated hospital(s). This position supports training and onboarding of new team members, assists with schedule coordination, promotes compliance with company standards, and serves as a liaison between hospital staff and program leadership to ensure consistent service delivery and quality outcomes. This role does not include direct employee management responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Comply with all company and facility policies and procedures, including appropriate PPE, required vaccinations, safety/security protocols, and annual compliance modules.
• Evaluate each patient for “screen readiness” prior to performing a screen; only screen patients in an appropriate state (fed, quiet, not moving/agitated, calm).
• Collect all necessary data/demographics for each baby.
• Perform the hearing screen and all screen-related services on all eligible babies during each shift.
• Ensure documentation protocol is followed for every screen.
• Treat each screened baby and their family with care and consideration.
• Upload all screen results, billing, and state reporting by the end of each shift; ensure stats for each screen are complete and reconciled.
• Perform screens efficiently while maintaining quality, patient education, and satisfaction.
• Provide relevant information to the responsible party and educate parents/guardians about the screen and next steps.
• Notify Site Supervisor of all missed and final refer babies.
• Schedule outpatient appointments for refer babies, where appropriate.
• Serve as the designated lead resource for assigned hospital locations.
• Support onboarding and training of new Hearing Screen Technicians.
• Assist with competency validation and promote compliance with screening protocols and documentation standards.
• Communicate operational concerns, staffing needs, and workflow challenges to the Site Supervisor.
• Assist with schedule coverage creation in coordination with the Site Supervisor.
• Act as a liaison between hospital staff and program leadership.
• Maintain equipment readiness and troubleshoot basic operational issues.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Current CPR Certification or must obtain upon offer.
• Flexibility to work on weekends and national holidays.
• 10% travel required (occasional meetings or trainings).
• Ability to stand and walk frequently (95% of shift).
• Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds (occasionally up to 50 pounds).
• Frequently push/pull up to 100 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• One to three months of previous experience with newborns and in a medical setting.
• Proficiency in Excel and data entry.
• Demonstrated history of strong quality metrics and productivity.
• Previous experience training or mentoring peers.
