Hood Lumber, a division of Hood Industries, Inc., is seeking a Millwright Lead Person for our Bogalusa, LA facility.

Schedule

Weekend shift consisting of Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily activities of the maintenance team while actively performing mechanical maintenance and repairs on production equipment and plant infrastructure.
  • Ensure equipment reliability, minimize downtime, coordinate maintenance priorities, mentor maintenance personnel, and promote a safe and productive work environment.
  • Champion a culture of reliability within the maintenance department by fostering a data-driven approach to decision making and encouraging proactive maintenance strategies.
  • Provide work directions to the maintenance team and deliver quality operational repairs and preventative maintenance services.
  • Use all proper and necessary tools to safely repair and maintain production/manufacturing equipment.
  • Maintain upkeep of the lumber mill, including:
    • Repairing/replacing belts, hoses, valves, sprockets, chains, motors, spindles, blades, bearings, and other machine parts in a production environment.
    • Monitoring the use and inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment, and initiating reordering when necessary.
    • Performing metal working (welding, cutting, fabricating) when necessary.
    • Repairing/replacing hydraulic units, oiling units, and equipment (chains/sprockets).
    • Operating a forklift, mobile crane, or other rolling stock on occasion.
  • Communicate regularly with co-workers and management to ensure good two-way communication concerning maintenance issues.
  • Review the operation of mill equipment and systems constantly to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and identify opportunities for improvement through root cause analysis.
  • Understand and remain aware of monthly, weekly, and daily metrics regarding efficiency, productivity, downtime, quality, and safety.
  • Implement projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
  • Lead safety, health, and environmental policies and practices within the team; respond to and lead repair and modification requests from the Safety Committee and/or Safety Manager.
  • Assist and train other millwrights and/or technical-level employees.
  • Perform additional responsibilities related to the operations of the mill, as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.
  • Must successfully pass Hood Industries’ Maintenance Certification Process at the Millwright AA level.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team skills.
  • Willing and able to work any shift, holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • Willing and able to work in a hot, cold, noisy, industrial environment.
  • Able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing, and/or pulling for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Able to work safely and follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Willing and able to pull and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Willing to work the weekend shift (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday).

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in wood products.
  • Experience operating a forklift.
