About the role
The Lead Massage Therapist & Esthetician plays a pivotal role in delivering exceptional guest experiences across three luxury spa properties. This position combines advanced hands-on expertise with leadership, mentorship, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Deliver exceptional massage, esthetic, and nail services tailored to each guest's individual needs, preferences, and wellness goals.
- Perform a range of advanced massage modalities and customized facial and body treatments in accordance with spa standards.
- Conduct professional consultations and make appropriate treatment, home-care, and wellness recommendations.
- Maintain exceptional standards of draping, sanitation, professionalism, guest privacy, and treatment-room presentation.
- Create a warm, personalized, and discreet experience consistent with 5-star hospitality expectations.
- Anticipate guest needs and consistently exceed expectations through thoughtful service and attention to detail.
- Build strong guest relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Serve as a role model and resource for all service providers.
- Mentor and support team members in treatment techniques, guest service, product knowledge, and professional standards.
- Assist management in vetting, interviewing new hires for massage, esthetics, and nails.
- Assist with onboarding, training, coaching, and continuing education for spa team members.
- Assign treatment rooms daily.
- Help maintain consistency in treatment protocols and service standards across the spa.
- Serve as a mentor and first point of contact for providers seeking clarification, guidance, or support.
- Assist management in enforcing rules and solving disputes.
- Provide constructive feedback and communicate team opportunities to the Spa Director.
- Create room schedules and booking order biannually in collaboration with spa management.
- Promote a positive, collaborative, and professional cohesive team culture.
- Support the Spa Director with daily spa operations as needed.
- Assist with maintaining treatment protocols, service menus, treatment timing, and quality standards.
- Support the introduction and testing of new products and tools in collaboration with management and vendors.
- Monitor treatment rooms, supplies, linens, equipment, and product inventory and communicate replenishment needs.
- Ensure all services are performed in accordance with applicable licensing, sanitation, safety, and spa policies/protocols.
- Report maintenance issues promptly to engineering and follow up as needed to ensure resolution.
- Identify spa upkeep or improvement needs and communicate them professionally to management.
- Support opening and closing procedures and other operational responsibilities as assigned.
- Confidently educate guests about appropriate enhancements, retail products, and future treatments without compromising the guest experience.
- Support spa revenue goals through authentic, needs-based recommendations.
- Encourage rebooking and long-term guest relationships.
- Maintain strong knowledge of all spa services, products, packages, and promotions.
Qualifications
- Current state license(s) required for massage therapy and esthetics, as applicable.
- Minimum 3–5 years of professional experience in a luxury spa, resort spa, hotel spa, or comparable high-end environment preferred.
- Forbes Five-Star Standards experience preferred.
- Previous lead, senior therapist, trainer, or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of massage modalities, facial treatments, body treatments, nail services, and spa protocols.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, contraindications, sanitation, and professional treatment practices.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and guest-service skills.
- Professional appearance and demeanor consistent with a luxury hospitality environment.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain composure, discretion, and professionalism in a fast-paced luxury environment.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules based on spa business needs.
