Lead Human Services Worker

About the role

The Lead Human Services Worker at the Waterbury Transitional Housing plays a crucial role in providing a safe and supportive environment for men undergoing rehabilitation. This position requires a combination of clinical expertise and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Promote a culture of respect, empathy, mutual support, belonging, and eliminate unconscious bias or discrimination.
• Aid in the orientation and training of new staff.
• Assume operational responsibilities of the program in the absence of the Residential Manager, including staff oversight.
• Maintain a safe and secure environment for all residents using appropriate de-escalation and behavior motivation techniques.
• Serve as an advocate for all participants, encouraging their engagement and accountability.
• Act as a mediator to resolve resident conflicts in a solution-focused manner.
• Maintain professional boundaries with residents, staff, volunteers, family members/visitors, and providers.
• Support residents in meeting their needs as necessary and appropriate.
• Implement and enforce agency/program policies and procedures governing facility operations.
• Complete and ensure accurate and timely documentation of all incidents and necessary reports.
• Conduct random drug tests and breathalyzer checks.
• Participate in staff meetings and trainings to enhance professional development.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• High School diploma/GED, associate or bachelor's degree with three years of experience in human services; residential experience preferred.
• At least one year of experience supervising staff.
• Experience with justice-involved clients with substance abuse, mental health, or other behavior issues.
• Ability to interact with multi-cultural populations.
• Crisis management skills.
• Shares the belief that people can change and individuals in need deserve quality services and an opportunity for recovery.
• Demonstrates trauma-informed approaches and cultural responsiveness, models pro-social behavior.
• Valid CT driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, and additional hours as needed.
• Bilingual ability (Spanish/English) desired.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have a High School diploma/GED, associate or bachelor's degree with relevant experience in human services, preferably with residential experience. Three years of experience in human services and one year of supervisory experience are required. Additional qualifications include experience with justice-involved clients, crisis management skills, and bilingual abilities.

Skills

Strong interpersonal skills, crisis management, and the ability to work with diverse populations are essential. Knowledge of trauma-informed care and cultural responsiveness is also important.

Pay

The Lead Human Services Worker at the Waterbury Transitional Housing earns $24.50 per hour.

Schedule

The schedule for this position is Tuesday-Saturday, 4 PM - 12 AM (2nd Shift).
