Yosemite Pathology is a private, independent, pathologist-owned and operated surgical pathology and cytology laboratory based in Modesto, CA. We provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art, reliable, and accurate diagnostic services to physicians and major area hospitals across multiple counties. Our services include a full spectrum of tissue pathology, cytology, and histology, with an extensive array of special stains and immunohistochemistry to assist in managing oncologic and non-oncologic diseases.

About the role

The Histology Technician – Lead is responsible for cutting, staining, quality control, and preparing tissue samples for pathologist review. This role involves prioritizing and completing testing procedures accurately and efficiently, maintaining proper records, and overseeing the training of new Histology Technicians. The Lead must uphold company values, ensure workflow efficiency, and troubleshoot equipment and procedural issues.

Responsibilities

  • Daily cleaning of work area
  • Embedding of routine anatomical specimens
  • Cutting of embedded tissue, including "levels," "recuts," "reembeds," and stains as requested by pathologists or secretaries
  • Checking "H&E" control for stain quality
  • Setting up and cleaning autostainer and coverslipper
  • Retrieving correct blocks and slides for pathologist requests
  • Setting up water baths
  • Maintaining special stain controls, including cutting them when short-staffed
  • Training new staff
  • Assisting in inventory maintenance for the histology department
  • Troubleshooting issues with Prisma, Link 48, Benchmark stainer, and tissue processors
  • Communicating workflow status with managers/leads during shift changes
  • Making quick decisions to resolve workflow or procedural issues

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of Histology experience
  • ASCP HT Certification (or in process of obtaining)
  • Associates Degree in Biology or related field (preferred)
  • Basic understanding of H&E stain
  • Knowledge and understanding of special stains and immunohistochemistry (IHC)
  • Ability to perform quality control on special stains and IHC

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM (Full-time, 40 hours per week)

Pay

Annual salary range: $83,200 – $93,600, paid semi-monthly. Final offer subject to candidate experience, expertise, geographic location, and market data.
