About the role

The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is seeking a full-time Lead General Engineer to work in the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center, Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Systems Directorate, Sentinel Systems Division, Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) Branch at Hill Air Force Base, near Layton, UT.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Lead Systems Engineer as a system engineering expert for the Command Systems Segment to ensure integration of critical events across the Sentinel Division and the prime contractor.
  • Leads, defines, manages, and integrates efforts of several groups or teams.
  • Affords and assigns ownership of processes and products, as appropriate.
  • Assists the SE&I program teams in navigating the overarching engineering, integration, and technical challenges encountered throughout the acquisition process.
  • Provides technical expertise and management for critical government activities such as weapon system critical design review, flight test campaign, full functional test, system qualification & verification, encryption key management, and/or logistics data flow.
  • Develops and presents technical briefings and reports to senior executives.
  • Responsible to lead integration efforts and engage with extended and geographically dispersed stakeholders including subject matter experts from across the Sentinel Systems Division, AFNWC, Air Force Global Strike Command, Senior DoD officials, the ICBM Integration Support Contractor, MITRE, John Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab (JHU-APL), Aerospace Corporation, etc. to ensure Sentinel technical activities are successfully planned, coordinated, and executed.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and background in Systems Engineering and integration, MBSE, secure communication network development, digital engineering concepts, agile development concepts, and/or exploitation of critical weapon systems is preferred.
  • Experience with and knowledge of software architecture, design, and implementation; Development Security and Operations (DevSecOps) pipeline design, development, and execution; real-time systems and software design and development principles; understanding of current cyber security design principles, tools, and implementation; and experience working in and leading Agile teams is highly desired.
  • Breadth and depth of experience in integrating systems engineering efforts from multiple teams and the ability to grasp extremely challenging technical concepts and provide solutions when needed within an enterprise is highly valued.
  • Experience and technical knowledge with ICBM weapon system development and/or lifecycle management, technology maturation, science and technology innovation within the U.S. nuclear enterprise is preferred.
  • Strong background working ACAT l programs with the understanding and knowledge to implement the government acquisition process as defined by the Defense Acquisition University and in accordance with DoDI 5000.02, Operation of the Adaptive Acquisition Framework is highly valued.
  • Strong background in collateral, sensitive compartmental and special access program security program management is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills, including skills in developing (written) and/or presenting detailed briefings (verbal) to Senior Leaders, to effectively interface with internal and external stakeholders at all levels as well as the independence, assertiveness, self-reliance, and tenacity to get the job done is required.
  • Skill in collaborating and integrating with high level Air Force, Navy, Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Missile Defense Agency, and other DoD organizations is highly desired.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance
  • Meet the education and specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Professional and Scientific Positions
  • Meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving Engineering and Technical Management “Practitioner” certification category within required timeframe after appointment
