Lead Engineer, Integrated Energy Planning (Hybrid Schedule)
About the role
The Lead Engineer Integrated Energy Planning performs a key role in the Company’s effort to develop an integrated energy planning strategy. The Lead Engineer Integrated Energy Planning will be responsible for leading a team of electric and gas planning engineers to conduct studies for targeted electrification, non-pipeline alternatives, and gas-electric coordination efforts with other EDCs and capital projects.
As an expert in electric power systems, power systems modeling, and power systems modeling tools, the Lead Engineer will act as the Company’s SME on integrated energy planning, represent the Company to various internal and external stakeholder groups, engage with regulators and policy makers, and present to Senior Management on projects and process.
With integrated gas and electric planning developing as a new function, the Lead Engineer will also be responsible for developing new processes, documentation, and reports, as well as gaining a detailed knowledge of gas planning.
Responsibilities
- Leads a team of gas and electric system planning engineers across all Operating Companies
- Takes ownership of the targeted electrification pilots as well as the Non-Pipeline Alternative (NPA) Process as well as securing budget authorization for Transmission, Distribution and Gas infrastructure upgrades necessary to facilitate customer electrification in lieu of current gas infrastructure and associated upgrades.
- Leads development of an integrated energy planning process and standard.
- Leads integrated energy planning and non-pipeline alternative studies.
- Owns the coordination of the utility-to-utility data exchange for overlapping service territories.
- Collaborates with multiple cross-functional groups in developing multi-year targeted electrification projects.
- Supports the Company’s regulatory strategy on targeted electrification.
- Engages with the Company’s rates subject matter experts to support development of specific rates for targeted electrification pilots and non-pipeline alternatives.
- Manages backlog and priorities for the team.
- Coordinates with stakeholders on timelines and priorities of work.
- Develops agile team management processes.
- Uses an agile approach to workload management for the associate engineers.
- Plans resources with high precision to deliver results on time and in expected quality.
- Delivers regular status reports.
- Ensures progress of engineers as they advance their skills modeling and power flow, as well as coding and automation skills.
- Collaborates with planning departments to develop career progressions.
- Develops goals and conducts reviews of direct reports.
- Prepares any related documentation and/or testimony to support regulatory filings.
- Effective communication, support and implementation with distribution customers pertaining to proposed facilities.
- Provides leadership in coordinating multiple cross-functional groups, and positive guidance for engineers.
- Presents recommendations and/or results to all levels of management as appropriate.
- Represents the department and the company on various committees.
- Recommends the development and/or changes as appropriate of criteria and standards for distribution modeling.
Requirements
Minimum of eight (8) years related experience in planning, design, and operations related to distribution line and distribution substation facilities, with a thorough knowledge of power system planning. Supervisory experience is preferred.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required (Electrical Engineering with a power systems concentration preferred)
- Advanced degrees preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of distribution systems, distribution system planning, and associated modeling tools such as Synergi Electric
- Advanced knowledge of distribution line design and operating practices.
- Knowledge of the techniques for planning the expansion of distribution lines and distribution substation facilities.
- Advanced knowledge of electrical theory as applied to planning an electric power supply system.
- Familiarity with non-pipeline alternatives (NPA) desirable.
- Basic understanding of gas planning processes advantageous.
- Basic coding knowledge preferrable (Python, Matlab).
- Knowledge of National, State, and other planning standards.
- Good written and oral communication skills, including formal presentation.
- Excellent team skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills, ability to develop strategic partnerships.

The annual salary range for this position is: $145,670.00-$161,860.00
