Lead Engineer (Hybrid Schedule)

About the Role

The Lead Engineer is responsible for the development, expansion, planning, design, maintenance, and operation of the system and its equipment to meet the mission and objectives of the organization. This position coordinates the evaluation of system failures and appropriate resolutions to support operations on unplanned maintenance. The role ensures Eversource distribution systems are designed to high-quality standards, providing customers with safe, reliable, competitively priced, and environmentally sound electric service.

This position shares accountability with peers in the strategy, development, and design of the organization’s Life Cycle Plan, a comprehensive long-term plan for the distribution system. The Lead Engineer supervises, assigns, prioritizes, and directs the work performed by other engineers and staff. Depending on the assignment, this role may be situated in various service centers or centralized with accountability for specific asset systems or component assets. On-call responsibilities may be required.

Responsibilities

• Manages, coaches, develops, and reviews the performance of engineers and other staff.
• Develops infrastructure strategy, operating philosophy, and technical basis for asset renewal decisions.
• Works closely with System Planning on process integration (Bulk Power Substations).
• Oversees the cost and performance of certain assets on the system, including reliability analysis, trending of system events, and monitoring of equipment condition.
• Develops, justifies, and authorizes Life Cycle Plan activities over a multi-year horizon and manages ongoing activities.
• Develops and manages a preventive maintenance optimization program.
• Creates preliminary engineering designs and details as necessary.
• Coordinates and prioritizes Life Cycle Plan work within each service area and across Electric Operations, participating in the work scheduling process.
• Collaborates with other engineers within Engineering to ensure consistency and teamwork.
• Provides technical support and direction to operating areas relative to system priorities, engineering guidelines, and operating decisions during normal and emergency situations.
• Conducts root-cause analysis and develops and implements corrective actions.
• Works closely with Investment Planning on project justification and financial rationing.
• Evaluates and selects technology and equipment for the system.
• Develops standards and procedures for design, operation, and maintenance.
• Assumes the role of Project Manager as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering.
• Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry.
• Supervisory experience preferred.

Working Conditions

• Must be available to work emergency restoration assignments as required.
• Must be available to travel between MA, CT, and NH as necessary.
• Work is performed primarily in an office environment; sitting, standing, walking, and climbing stairs are involved.
• May require traveling to operating districts and companies within and outside the state.

Pay

The annual salary range for this position is $145,670.00 - $161,860.00. This position is eligible for a potential incentive.
