Lead Emergency Services Dispatcher

About the role

Incumbent works an alternate schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays. Responsible for completing continuing dispatch education (CDE) through local in-service training and passing required courses. Must obtain and maintain Telecommunicator I & II, Hazardous Material Awareness, CPR, and Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certifications within specified timeframes or face removal from federal service.

Responsibilities

• Distribute and balance workload among employees to ensure timely completion of dispatch activities.
• Provide advanced emergency medical dispatch life support via pre-arrival instructions to callers.
• Operate and maintain Dispatch Call Center equipment, including the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) System, to obtain criminal background information.
• Prepare and maintain reports and records related to emergency responses.
• Monitor multiple types of emergency equipment simultaneously.
• Document accurate information into appropriate databases.
• Interpret pertinent laws and regulations related to emergency calls and dispatching services.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Creditable experience includes:
  • Answering 911 calls.
  • Working with emergency services dispatch equipment.
  • Interpreting laws and regulations related to emergency calls and dispatching.
  • Documenting information into databases.
• Must successfully complete required training and certifications (Telecommunicator I & II, Hazardous Material Awareness, CPR, EMD) within specified timeframes.
• Subject to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug testing. Refusal or positive test results may result in withdrawal of job offer or removal from federal service.
