Lead Dispatcher
Leadership & Team Management
Lead, mentor, and develop the dispatch team while fostering a positive, accountable work environment.
Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to dispatch personnel.
Assist with hiring, onboarding, and developing new dispatch team members.
Establish and maintain dispatch best practices and standard operating procedures.
Dispatch Operations
Oversee daily dispatch operations, ensuring efficient load planning and equipment utilization.
Cook up driver schedules, load assignments, routing, and customer delivery requirements.
Monitor fleet performance and proactively address service issues.
Balance customer expectations with driver availability and Hours of Service requirements.
Driver Support
Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers throughout the workday.
Communicate dispatch instructions, schedule changes, customer updates, and operational priorities.
Aid drivers in resolving delays, mechanical issues, weather events, and other operational challenges.
Promote professionalism and excellent customer service among all drivers.
Customer Service
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers through proactive communication.
Ensure freight is delivered safely, efficiently, and on time.
Resolve customer concerns quickly while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure dispatch operations comply with all DOT and FMCSA regulations.
Monitor driver Hours of Service, electronic logs, and dispatch activities for compliance.
Work closely with the Safety & Compliance department to address violations or operational concerns.
Reinforce company safety policies and operational procedures.
Operational Excellence
Analyze dispatch metrics and identify opportunities for increased efficiency.
Assist leadership with capacity planning, route optimization, and operational improvements.
Cook up with Sales, Operations, Maintenance, Logistics, and Safety departments to ensure seamless service.
Maintain accurate dispatch records and operational documentation.
Required
- Minimum 3 years of dispatch or transportation logistics experience.
- Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and Hours of Service requirements.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Strong customer service and conflict resolution abilities.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient with dispatch software, GPS tracking systems, and Microsoft Office.
Preferred
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Logistics, Business, or related field.
- Experience managing flatbed or specialized freight operations.
