Lead Electrical Engineer

We are seeking a talented Senior or Lead Electrical Engineer to join our team in Somerset, New Jersey.
About the role
In this position, you will work independently on various projects as assigned by a Project Manager or Group Lead. You may oversee the entire design process or serve as a technical expert on specialized designs, potentially managing several concurrent projects. Ideally, you are a recognized expert in a specialized area such as electrical, mechanical, plumbing, or process systems.
Responsibilities
- Act as Project Lead for all project phases, including Feasibility Reports, Building Assessments, Concept and Basis of Design Reports, and Detailed Design and Documentation.
- Assess project requirements, break projects into tasks, and collaborate with the Project Manager to define scope, budget, and staffing.
- Write the scope of work for design based on client meetings and preliminary reviews.
- Prepare engineering studies and schematic designs for new systems.
- Review and evaluate the operation of existing systems.
- Collaborate with code officials and design professionals on code interpretations or exceptions.
- Assign and review work for the project design team, producing markups for drawings.
- Communicate with clients and alert the Project Manager to scope changes or additional services.
- Review contractor payment applications.
- Coordinate project document completion internally and externally with clients and design professionals.
- Perform engineering calculations for design, including service sizing, short circuit studies, arc flash studies, power system load analysis, and Neher-McGrath calculations for buried conduits.
- Prepare or review construction budgets based on project scope and experience.
- Promote and contribute to company design and production standards.
- Mentor design staff and serve as a resource for technical questions.
- Complete additional tasks or special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- 10–12 years of engineering/design experience in building design (e.g., power distribution, standby power, life safety systems).
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited four-year institution.
- Proficiency in engineering design software and CAD tools (AutoCAD/Revit).
- Thorough knowledge of electrical system design and applicable codes.
- Experience with electrical engineering calculations (SKM, EasyPower, AmpCALC, etc.).
- Familiarity with medium voltage systems, hazardous classified areas, and telecommunications.
- 4+ years of experience overseeing engineers and designers on project teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods.
- Capability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as needed.
- Lift and move objects up to 25 pounds.
- Climb ladders when required.
Work Environment
- Work in both indoor and outdoor environments with varying conditions.
- Adhere to strict cleanroom gowning protocols when necessary.
Travel
- 5–20% travel, depending on project requirements.
- Possible extended assignments at client sites.
- Overnight travel may be required based on project location.
- Must have reliable transportation for daily or routine commuting.
- Adherence to client site safety rules is mandatory.

Pay
Salary range: $183,000 – $210,000, dependent on experience, skills, and education.
