Lead Electrical Design Engineer
About the Role
Activities contributing to the design and development of products, solutions, and systems. Includes activities linked to technical improvement of existing products and components. Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning and execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical hardware systems, subassemblies, and associated engineering documentation for new product development, retrofit, modernization, and lifecycle support projects.
- Perform component selection and technical evaluation based on functional requirements, quality, reliability, cost, availability, and compliance considerations.
- Create, review, and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, interconnection drawings, panel layouts, single-line diagrams, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Support hardware development for power and power conversion products, including electrical assemblies, control interfaces, and associated system integration.
- Partner closely with engineering teams to ensure effective integration of electrical and mechanical hardware within cabinets, enclosures, and product assemblies.
- Participate in design reviews, prototype builds, testing, validation, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis to ensure robust and reliable product performance.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, System, Engineering, Sourcing, Quality, Testing, Project management, and Service teams to support successful execution across the product lifecycle.
- Ensure designs are aligned with applicable industry standards (e.g., UL, IEC), safety requirements, and internal engineering processes.
- Lead engineering change management, technical documentation updates, and continuous product improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to efforts focused on standardization, simplification, quality improvement, and engineering productivity.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related engineering discipline from an accredited university or college and 5+ years of experience, or master’s degree in electrical hardware design within power, power conversion, automation, or industrial product engineering, and 2+ years of experience.
- Demonstrated experience in component selection, electrical documentation development, and hardware design execution.
- Understanding of circuit design and safety design practices for Low Voltage and Medium Voltage power conversion products.
- Proficiency in creating and reviewing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and BOMs.
- Familiarity with ECAD/CAD tools and engineering documentation control practices.
- Good understanding of electrical and mechanical integration in product design and development.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, global environment.
Desired Characteristics
- Experience with power conversion systems, industrial control panels, converter systems, motor control applications, or related power products.
- Familiarity with applicable standards such as IEC, UL, IEEE, CE, or related industry requirements.
- Knowledge of EMI/EMC, grounding, shielding, and industrial control hardware design practices.
- Experience supporting retrofit, obsolescence management, and product upgrade programs.
- Exposure to Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
- Experience developing schematics on EPLAN software and PLM software.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership, drive results, and work with urgency in a matrixed organization.

Pay
The pay range for this U.S.-based position is between $89,300.00 and $148,700.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. Bonus eligibility includes a discretionary annual bonus.
