About the role
Eaton’s Bussmann Division is seeking a Lead Design Engineer (Electrical) for a hybrid position (3 days on-site, 2 days remote per week) based at our Ellisville, MO location. Relocation assistance will be provided to candidates currently residing within the US/PR.
Responsibilities
- Acts as technical lead and design authority for assigned fuse product families, owning engineering decisions, change control (Engineering Requests/Engineering Orders), and product integrity across the lifecycle.
- Leads development and evolution of advanced fuse technologies for data center, grid, and power conversion applications, translating market and customer requirements into robust, scalable product architectures.
- Plans and executes complex new product development and platform extensions from concept through launch, balancing performance, cost, manufacturability, risk, and schedule commitments.
- Defines materials, processes, manufacturing strategies, and verification/validation plans to ensure global manufacturability, regulatory compliance, quality, and long-term reliability.
- Provides product line support, drives root cause and corrective actions, applies continuous improvement methods, mentors engineers, and clearly communicates technical direction, risks, and progress to stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited institution
- Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience in electrical product development
- Knowledge of DC and/or MV (medium voltage) products and systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Physics from an accredited institution
- Knowledge of electrical circuit protection products, electrical distribution systems, and applicable industry standards
- Experience working within quality management systems
- Experience in testing techniques
- Experience with 3D CAD modeling tools (SolidWorks, PTC Creo or others)
Skills
- Knowledge in product development of electric/mechanical assemblies in a rigorous engineering environment
- Knowledge in the design of components with varied manufacturing processes including injection molding, stamping, machining and high-volume assembly processes
- Knowledge of power test equipment and measurement instrumentation
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Competency in statistical analysis
- Ability to effectively motivate and influence others without authority
