Job Summary
Join a TEAM dedicated to making a difference in the lives of the people we serve! We are seeking applicants for Lead Direct Support Professional (DSP) who oversees and coordinates the daily operations of the assigned residential home. This role involves providing guidance and support to a team of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) while actively conducting as a DSP to ensure the well-being and quality of life of the participants served at Southwest Center.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- Must pass pre-employment & random drug testing.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Must have proof of current automobile insurance.
- Must be able to work second shift (4:00 pm – 12:00 am).
- Must be able to work first shift (8:00 am – 4:00 pm) and third shift (12:00 am – 8:00 am), as needed.
- Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Must have at least one (1) year experience working with individuals that have developmental and/or intellectual disabilities.
- Able to read, understand and implement written and oral instructions.
- Able to maintain client confidentiality.
- Proficient communication and management skills.
- Knowledge of basic computer knowledge including but not limited to software applications, internet basics, email, and electronic medical records.
Responsibilities
- Works majority at assigned residence with up to eight (8) hours in office for administration duties.
- Completes staffing schedules for assigned residence, ensuring all shifts are covered which could result in the Lead DSP working open shifts.
- Covers appointments of participants living in assigned residence with DSPs, House Manager, Program Nurse, and/or legal guardians.
- Ensures any equipment and resident safety hazards and repair needs are reported immediately to House Manager or Facility Director.
- Ensures all medications are properly administered and MARS are completed, and med errors are communicated timely to the House Manager.
- Safeguards the residence by keeping it neat, clean, and free from clutter at all times.
- Completes MAR checks, as assigned.
- Trains new staff who are assigned to the home prior to the employee working independently.
- Ensures all required documentation and task on the Daily Task sheet are completed daily.
- Completes monthly summaries on all participants within the residential home by the 10th of each month.
- Coordinates emergency drills according to state regulations.
- Provides equipment training (i.e. mechanical lifts) to DSPs, as needed.
- Supports other Lead DSPs and service locations in the event of emergencies and call-ins, as needed.
- Coordinates staff meetings with the Residential Manager at least once a month.
- Treats co-workers and supervisors with respect. Promotes teamwork and maintains a positive attitude.
- Completes initial and annual training-(CPR, First Aid, Tb skin assessment, etc.) as directed by Agency policy and regulatory standards.
- Attends monthly staff meetings and additional staff development trainings as scheduled.
- Adheres to Agency policy and procedures. Maintains a consistent work attendance record. Limits use of calling off to a minimum and notifies direct supervisor in appropriate amount of time when unable to report to work.
- Fosters collaborative working relationships among members of the leadership and management teams and programs.
