Lead Construction Projects Specialist at Facilities & Planning

Provide specialized assistance in the coordination and organization of construction, reconstruction, alteration, and relocation of school buildings and facilities and other capital outlay projects. Serve as the primary contact person for contractors, architects, consultants, and other outside contractors. Provide technical information related to building or remodel designs, projects, and other related information, and coordinate the daily schedules of construction project specialists and technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and organize construction, reconstruction, alteration, and relocation of school buildings and facilities and other capital outlay projects.
  • Serve as the primary contact for contractors, architects, consultants, and other outside contractors.
  • Provide technical information related to building or remodel designs and projects.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, ordinances, codes, and contracts.
  • Generate project schedules using Microsoft Project and track multiple projects.
  • Maintain District facility inventory and site plans.
  • Research, interpret, and apply building codes, ADA regulations, construction law, labor regulations, and applicable state bid requirements.
  • Facilitate project implementation as directed by the Construction Project Manager, including follow-through on project details.
  • Establish and maintain accurate record-keeping systems.
  • Work from blueprints, shop drawings, and sketches.
  • Analyze situations and adopt effective courses of action.
  • Work independently with little or no direct supervision.
  • Meet schedules and timelines, and recommend methods to get projects back on schedule.
  • Prepare project construction estimates and budgets.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Operate a computer terminal to enter data, maintain records, and generate reports.
  • Prepare site plans and other graphics.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including the use of legal and construction terminology.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Respond to emergency calls during evenings or weekends.
  • Travel throughout the District and, on occasion, to various other California cities on District business.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by college-level coursework in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related field.
  • Increasingly responsible experience in construction management, school facility planning, or a related field.
  • Valid California driver’s license.
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the District and occasionally to other California cities on District business.
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls during evenings or weekends.

Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • Building codes, ADA regulations, construction law, labor regulations, and applicable state bid requirements (public contract code).
  • Building construction methods and materials and the preparation of construction documents.
  • Interpretation and review of construction contracts and project specifications.
  • District organization, operations, policies, and objectives.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Health and safety regulations.
  • Technical aspects of the field of specialty.
  • Record-keeping techniques.
  • Basic computer operation, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.
  • Computer-assisted drafting techniques.
  • Local government structure of agencies having planning and permit jurisdiction over Lodi Unified School District.
  • Local and state permit processes.

Ability to:

  • Provide specialized assistance in coordinating and organizing construction projects.
  • Communicate effectively with District personnel, agency representatives, contractors, architects, and consultants.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, ordinances, codes, and contracts.
  • Schedule and track multiple projects using Microsoft Project.

Required Documents

  • High School Diploma or equivalent or Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Education Degree (must be attached to application).

Licenses and Other Requirements

  • If selected, out-of-district applicants must complete T.B. testing and fingerprinting.
  • A practical skills test may be administered at the time of interview.
  • The successful applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment physical examination (cost borne by the District).
