The Lead, Communications is responsible for shaping impactful messaging and strengthening brand visibility within a mission-driven organization. This role combines strategic storytelling, editorial expertise, and project management to support thought leadership and external engagement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Create and refine content across multiple formats while partnering with leadership, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams.
- Write, edit, and proofread a variety of external communications materials, including reports, playbooks, toolkits, white papers, blog content, and digital resources.
- Develop supporting content in collaboration with marketing teams, including website copy, landing pages, and thought leadership materials.
- Ghostwrite and collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure consistent organizational voice and messaging.
- Review and refine internal communications documents, presentations, and team resources.
- Conduct research and develop editorial resources, style guidelines, and communication tools.
- Create content such as blogs, recaps, scripts, and campaign materials for major initiatives.
- Collaborate on storytelling, key messaging, and communications strategies for organizational programs.
- Coordinate communications logistics for large-scale initiatives and external-facing projects.
- Aid in public relations and earned media efforts, including drafting pitches, maintaining media lists, tracking coverage, and coordinating media activities.
- Maintain editorial calendars, track publication timelines, and coordinate workflows across communications and marketing teams.
- Manage relationships with external contributors and internal stakeholders involved in content development.
Requirements
- Strong writing, editing, and project management experience.
- Exceptional writing skills with the ability to adapt tone and messaging across executive communications, long-form content, social media, and internal materials.
- Strong editing capabilities, including developmental editing, copyediting, and proofreading with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and create content that resonates with diverse audiences.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines, priorities, and stakeholders simultaneously.
- Experience collaborating cross-functionally with marketing teams, executives, and subject matter experts.
- Ability to operate effectively in dynamic environments with evolving priorities.
- Experience in education, nonprofit, or mission-driven sectors is strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain high-quality work under tight timelines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
